People assume because I follow a diet I’m barely eating food or can never eat sweets. I love telling people that I eat over 2,000 calories a day or that I have a brownie every day. I love saying I don’t diet; I eat for my goals. Yes, I have lost inches and weight. Yes, I am smaller than I have been since junior high. Yes, I am extremely healthy!
Sure, I have a more restricted diet while training for a competition, especially as it gets closer. But I still get to choose what I eat as long as it fits my macros. Its called flexible dieting or IIFYM.
Flexible dieting is the best way to eat because you get to reach your goals while not depriving yourself. By not depriving, I don’t mean eat an entire pizza or tub of ice cream. I mean have what you want in moderation. Because I don’t deprive myself, I don’t binge either. This is something that people have a problem with on low calorie or fad diets. Even if people on these diets stay strict and see results, they can’t keep them up forever, just as I can’t maintain my contest prep diet forever.
I can, however, maintain a level of maintenance by staying within my macros. So even when I’m not training for a show, I stay at maintenance level with my macros. Otherwise I would just gain the inches and pounds I worked so hard to lose and have to start all over. Starting over means going back on the “Death by Eggs” diet and I will NEVER be on that again!
My trainer laughed when I said his signature diet plan was my motivation to not overindulge. But it is much easier to just stay within my allotted macros with flexible dieting. Once you get the hang of it, and realize what food sources to use for what macros, it's actually fun and interesting. You start focusing on what you can have rather than what you are sacrificing.
So, in conclusion, research flexible dieting, counting macros, and IIFYM. If you really want to fine-tune your macro management, get in touch with Jay Horn. He can manipulate macros like you wouldn’t believe. Of course, seeing is believing, check out the natural transformations for yourself.
